Concept and Materials

"Measuring” Time / “衡量“时间 2024 Materials: Cloth, coffee grounds, sand, hair, leaves, tea, flour Before the invention of the concept of time, falling sand was simply just falling sand. Life and nature have their own cycle and rhythm of time - leaves grow and fall from a tree, while hairs grow and fall from our body. In this piece, falling sand and nature-textured fabric come together to evoke the cyclical nature of life, reminding us that human beings are just fleeting visitors who will eventually return to soil and dust. Beyond the time measured by mechanical clocks, marked by precise scales, lies another kind of time, one that all beings experience and perceive through their own existence. Please feel free to interact with the piece, feel the sand slipping through your fingers, catch it as it falls, touch the sand on the ground, or refill the cloth with sand.
